About Taabb
Taabb.com (大白笔记) is a small notes site that pairs a modern UI with the feel of the web in 2004. We built it to recapture that slower internet. Today’s web moves too fast and feels restless—algorithmic feeds and snack-sized content everywhere. We just want a quiet corner for people who miss those days, who like keeping a record at their own pace: a place to write, store moods, and keep memories.
We have been running since 2017. We want you to switch freely between writing for yourself and writing for others. When you want solitude, a post can be visible only to you; if you worry about privacy, you can add an access password. When you want to speak up, widen the visibility.
You can also gather notes with tags and notebooks, and browse by year and month on your profile. Use Care to follow people you like, and see more people who enjoy sharing on Discover. We do not do product-seeding culture or anxiety marketing—only real life.
Getting started
The first time you use the site, we suggest setting things up in this order.
- Open the home page and click 「创建账号」 (Create account) to sign up. Usernames may contain letters, numbers, and underscores, and must be at least 3 characters. Passwords must include both uppercase and lowercase letters and be at least 6 characters. Enter the captcha, and accept the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
- After you register, sign in. Go to Settings, open 「安全」 (Security), and download and back up your RSA private key. This site does not reset passwords by email. The private key is how you recover your password later. Treat it like a bank PIN: store it safely and never send it to anyone.
- After login you land in the Workspace. On the left you can open Discover, Apps, and Settings. At the top you can search your own posts. The top-right corner holds notifications, Care approvals, and the account menu. If you check 「保持我的登录状态」 (Keep me signed in), you will not need to enter your password again for a while.
Workspace
The Workspace is where you start after login. In the middle there are three writing entry points: Notes for longer writing and knowledge, with a title; Moments for short updates in a lighter style; and Todos for task lists. Pick a type to open the editor. You can publish when you are done, or 「存草稿」 (Save draft) and continue later from the drafts list next to the title.
Published posts appear below. You can switch between 「公开」 (Public) and 「私密」 (Private): public is whatever you allow others to see; private is only you or people you named. The list can load more. The 「新建」 (New) button on the left does the same as the three entry points, so you can jot something down anytime.
Publishing
Write in the editor. You can insert images and emoji, and @ other users. Before you publish, decide who can see it—use the visibility control at the top of the page, or the 「更多设置」 (More settings) icon. The options mean:

If you want a public post with an extra lock, click the lock icon to set a content password: the title or summary still shows in lists, but opening the post requires the password to read the body. Public or follower-visible posts can also allow or disallow comments. Fully private posts cannot be commented on by others.
You can 「存草稿」 (Save draft) at any time; when it looks right, click 「发布」 (Publish). Published posts can still be edited from the Workspace or the post page. If this piece belongs to a series or theme, add it to a notebook under 「内容设置」 (Content settings) so readers can go through it in order (see Notebooks below).
Live Photos
On Workspace Moments and on the Note and Todo editors, you can insert iPhone Live Photos. The body shows a still cover first; when reading, the matching short video can play.
- Export the Live Photo from the iPhone to a computer or phone so you get an image and a short video with the same filename (see “Export to a Windows PC” below).
- Click the insert-image button in the editor toolbar, select both files together in the file picker (the base names must match, e.g.
IMG_0001.JPGandIMG_0001.MOV), then confirm the upload. - The site binds the image and video automatically. After upload, a 「实况」 (Live) badge appears on the top-left of the image. After publish, hover the image on desktop to play it, or long-press on a phone.
Export to a Windows PC
USB cable (recommended): connect the iPhone to the PC, open the Apple device under This PC, and go to Internal Storage\DCIM. The Live Photo appears as a JPG and an MP4 with the same name. Copy both files to the computer to keep the motion, then upload as above.
Export to an Android phone
Cross-platform transfer: install LocalSend on both phones, or use QQ / WeChat 「面对面收照片」 (receive photos face to face). Sending a Live Photo on the same Wi-Fi keeps the motion more reliably than AirDrop-style tools across platforms.
If you only get a still after transfer, first 「存储为视频」 (Save as Video) on the iPhone (see below), then send the MP4 to Android and upload it together with the still cover.
Save a Live Photo as video
If you only want the motion, or you need to send it to a device that does not support Live Photo, convert it to MP4 first. To publish it as Live on this site, you still need to upload the video together with the still cover (see the upload steps above).
- One photo: open the Live Photo in Photos, tap More (three dots) or Share in the top-right, scroll down, and choose 存储为视频 (Save as Video). You will get a clip of about 3 seconds.
- Several photos: tap 「选择」 (Select) in the top-right, pick several Live Photos, tap More in the bottom-right, then Save as Video. iOS stitches them into one longer clip, which works well as vlog footage.
Tags
Tags are categories for yourself, such as Travel, Work, or Reading. You can tag notes and todos when you publish, then click a tag in the Workspace sidebar to see everything under it.
Create tags in the 「标签」 (Tags) area on the right of the Workspace. On a tag page, 「操作」 (Actions) in the top-right lets you edit the name and description, or delete the tag. You will be told first: published posts stay; only the link to the tag is removed. Your moments, notes, and todos are not deleted.
Tags do not expose private posts. Other people cannot use your tags to find posts they are not allowed to see. Tags are only for your own filing, and they help more as your archive grows.
Discover & Care
「发现」 (Discover) in the left menu has two views. Recommended shows public posts on the site, ranked by reads, interaction, and recency; after you sign in it also considers what you tend to read. Care shows only posts from people you follow that are visible to you—better for keeping up with people you know.
To follow someone, open their profile and click 「关心」 (Care). If they require approval, wait until they accept it under 「关心审批」 (Care approvals). After that you can give their device a note-name, and manage followers and following on the Care pages. On posts you can see, you may like, comment, or reply. If someone is @ mentioned in a post, they get a notification.
Profile
Every user has a profile at “site domain + your username”, for example /taabb. It shows avatar, display name, bio, and cover image—all editable in Settings. Posts sit on a timeline by year and month; the year nav on the left jumps to a month.
Whether the profile is open is separate from each post’s visibility. In Settings you can make the profile fully public, visible only to people who Care, or lock the whole page (others will not see the post list). If a single post has an access password, visitors still need that password even when the profile is public. Each post has a permalink for sharing, usually like “username/post/id”.
Notifications & messages
When someone comments on you, replies to your comment, @ mentions you, or asks to Care about you and needs your approval, a badge appears in the top-right. Open the notification center to view all or unread items. Direct messages and comments are managed separately so you can handle them one by one. You can also message other users; please keep it civil. The system rate-limits frequent sending so people are not spammed.
Notebooks
A notebook gathers several posts into one “book”—useful for a travel series or a themed collection meant to be read in order. Create a notebook from the Workspace or the publish page, set the title, cover, and whether it is public. When you write a new post or edit an old one, pick it under 「加入日记本」 (Add to notebook). Readers open the notebook page and can read chapter by chapter; some notebooks also have a calendar view for jumping by date.
Apps
「应用」 (Apps) on the left of the Workspace collects extra tools. The ledger supports multiple books, income and expense entries, stats by category, and visibility limited to yourself or chosen friends—useful for personal or small-group bookkeeping. To write into this site from outside, open API in Apps and create a personal Token. For a language model, have it read the public spec at /api/open.md, or open the Open API docs.
Account & security
Display name, avatar, bio, and profile cover are all in Settings. Change your login password there too. After a password change, other devices may be signed out and need to sign in again.
Again: this site has no email password reset. If you forget your password, you must prove identity with the private key you downloaded after registration. If you never backed up the key, contact us using the details at the end of this page. We cannot promise that the account can be recovered.
About data: we do not track extra user behavior. Posts visible only to you are stored encrypted. Images live in cloud storage and are in a shared state, so we cannot guarantee that images you put in private posts will never leak. Please do not upload sensitive photos in private-only notes. Taabb has run stably for seven years. The team treats data security as a standing job, keeps upgrading content encryption, and regularly scans for vulnerabilities.
FAQ
How do I get a post onto Discover?
Set that post’s visibility to “Visible to everyone” and publish. Ranking also depends on how new it is, interaction, and whether the profile is locked. We use a fair ranking so every note has a chance to be found, and so exposure keeps moving—sensitive users are not stuck at the front of the feed.
Can other people find my private posts through my tags?
No. Tags only help you filter. They are not a way for others to search your private posts.
If I delete a notebook or a tag, are the posts gone?
No. You only delete the notebook or tag itself. They are linked to posts, not containers. Deleting the link does not delete the posts.
How do I upload a Live Photo?
In the Moment, Note, or Todo editor, select together the exported still and the MOV/MP4 with the same name. For getting files from iPhone to Windows or Android, or Save as Video first, see Publishing → Live Photos and the sections after it.
Can I import from other note apps?
One-click import from Youdao, Evernote, and similar apps is not supported yet. The note editor already accepts Word and Markdown uploads. You can also create a personal Token under API in Apps, then query, upload images, publish, and delete with a third-party script.
Will the site shut down suddenly? Is my data safe?
We have been serving since 2017, with encryption and daily automatic backups. Operating cost is low, so the pressure to keep the site running is small. Even so, keep a local copy of important writing—that is the safest habit. We also plan more export and backup features.
How is this different from Xiaohongshu, Qzone, or Weibo?
We do not push people to “create content,” we have no product-seeding culture, we are not a social network, and we do not chase traffic. We care about everyday writing so you can look back later. Image storage is unlimited, and we do not force-compress photos the way Qzone does, so pictures stay sharp. If you are tired of performative feeds and hot-topic ranking, this is a quiet place of your own.
